The blogging begins...

It is Day 82 of our year on the road. I know it has taken us nearly 3 months, but this is our first blog entry to share our experience and emotions during our travels.

Where have you been?

The last 82 days has already given us more adventure than we ever expected, here is a quick overview of where we have been. We started our trip in Busan, Korea as our transit point into Russia. 28 Days were spent in Russia on the Trans-Siberian train making our way on and off to St. Petersburg. We then flew to the UK to spend time with Ian’s family in Swansea and in early July, flew to Denmark to camp out at the Roskilde Music Festival. Two weeks were then spent in Hamburg, Germany and Krakow, Poland. Our time in Poland is particularly memorable because we visited the Auschwitz Memorial and a number of museums educating us on how World War II affected Poland overall.

Diane hit her 7 year anniversary of living in Hong Kong and we flew back to ensure her permanent residency application could be submitted promptly. We had started our trip right when the protests had begun and this time, we saw its continuing escalation.

We flew to Barcelona to see HK friends who had moved there and then began our road trip through La Rioja region. Diane learned to drive manual (eek!) and Ian was lucky to enjoy lots of wine tastings as Diane was the sober driver. A bit of time was spent driving the camino (yes i know, everyone walks or cycles). We have spent the last few days in Porto with Diane’s college friend and her family who are also on holiday here.

We have been in nine countries, 28 cities.

So what’s next?

We are spending another week in Portugal, driving down to Sintra and then to Lisbon for a couple of days. Our next country is Morocco where we will be spending 26 days traveling throughout the country. After that, Ethiopia and South Africa. We are very keen in the next few months to get immersed in countries that many people do not get a chance to visit and leave with a better understanding of what life is like there.

What’s this blog? Are there going to be videos?

It has taken some time for us to get adjusted to life on the road without full-time employment.. I know #firstworldproblems… but you will soon be hearing more from us beyond our Instagram account. Diane will be blogging on this site and Ian is putting the final touches on starting up our YouTube channel.
