All in Ethiopia
The Meskel Festival is an annual celebration in September commemorating the discovery of the True Cross by the Roman Empress Helena in the 4th Century. The big celebration happens in the main square of Ethiopian cities where people gather branches and create the largest bonfire they can.
After seven months of travel, we reflected on our top five experiences… here are the first two.
One of our final adventures during our time in Ethiopia was a visit to the northeast into the desert area of the Afar region. Danakil lies about 410 ft below sea level and is one of the hottest places on Earth. It has been described as an alien world and people imagine that this must be what life on Mars is like.
On Day 2 of Ethiopia, we took a 7 hour drive in Ethiopia from Addis Ababa to Arba Minch it turned into an 11 hour drive. We had to fire the driver.
